This week the teachers gave out Heart of Achievement Awards. These are very special awards and Room 3's recipient was Ari Telford. Congratulations Ari, we are all very proud of you!

Class Newsletter Week 5

Dear Parents and Caregivers

One more week to go until our School Monster Fair! Thank you to those families who have put their name down to take a shift on our Fizzy Drinks stall. We will be selling out of a caravan on the day, and I have just found out we will also be selling large bags of chips. I will let you know when your shift will be early next week.

Earlier this week you will have received a book of Raffle Tickets to sell. Please return money and/or unsold ticket to the office ASAP. The prizes are fantastic, so, like our family, you may choose to purchase them yourself!

If you have any old toys, books, small Lucky Dip items etc you would be happy to donate to the fair, please drop them off to the office.

All classes across the school will be completing maths, writing and reading assessments over the next couple of weeks, leading up to the issuing of School Reports. This may mean your child does not have a new Guided Reading book some days as this time is used to complete individual assessments. Instead, please re-read books from previous days, revise alphabet knowledge using your child’s alphabet book or review High Frequency words (reading and spelling).

Please continue to send the children to school in comfortable running shoes on Tuesdays and Fridays as we continue our Athletics practises. The confirmed date for the Junior Athletics Day is Tuesday 25 November. Children will wear their House colours on this day. The postponement date is Thursday 27 November.

On this coming Monday 17 November the school will be hosting a consultation evening with educational consultant Mark Osborne about ‘Modern Learning’, at 6pm in the hall. Further information will be given in the School Newsletter. I highly recommend you take the opportunity to attend this session as it will give you a great insight into modern education and what it means for our school. Staff and Board of Trustees members will also be in attendance.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Kind regards
Cara Wallace

Room 3 Playdate

This weekend many of the children and their families enjoyed a picnic and playdate together. The Mums and Dads enjoyed a good chat while the children and their brothers and sisters enjoyed playing together. Joey's wagon and Ari's tractor were very popular! Thanks to Abby for organising this fun get together and taking a few photos to share.

Ch for Chocolate and Cheese...

On Friday we made Chocolate Crackles and Cheese Puffs because we have been learning about the digraph 'Ch'. They were both delicious - which one would you ch ch ch choose?

We love symmetry!

Check out these great symmetrical patterns some of the children made with the mosaic tiles:

Wendy and Alexus talk about Asthma...

On Friday Wendy came to Room 3 to talk about Alexus' Asthma. She bought Alexus' special backpack containing a teddy bear, books and the special equipment Alexus needs to manage her Asthma. They showed us how to use the spacer attachment for the inhaler and the peak flow meter. Mrs Wallace read us a special book about a girl with Asthma and we learnt about its symptoms, how it effects people, what to do if you have an Asthma attack and how to use the special medicines and equipment. Now we know how to help Alexus if she gets Asthma at school. Thank you for coming and talking to us Wendy.

Tui visits Room 3

This week Sam's Dad brought in their lovely dog Tui to meet the children of Room 3. Tui said hello to all the children and enjoyed lots of pats and cuddles - a very tolerant dog! Thank you for visiting Tui!

Congratulations Sam and Henry!

This week our class certificates went to Henry (Achievement) and Sam (Values). Well done boys, we are all very proud of you!

Congratulations Kylee and Trey

This week our class certificates went to Kylee (Values) and Trey (Achievement). Well done to you both!

Halloween Cookies

On Friday, with the able assistance of Nick, Shireen, Elisabeth, Rachel, Sarah M. and Kerry, we had a fantastic time making and icing gingerbread biscuits. Many of us enjoyed using Mrs Wallace's new Halloween themed cookie cutters, but we also enjoyed using the dinosaur and farm animals cutters too. We learned how to knead the dough, roll it out and cut out the shapes. Later on we learned how to make icing, choosing and mixing our favourite colours, before decorating our biscuits. I hope they were as delicious as they looked!

Week 3 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers
I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend – a mixed bag of weather, but that’s Christchurch isn’t it!

Everyone will have received their invitation to the Room 3 Playdate on Saturday 8 November. Thanks goes to Abby for organising this fun get together. It would be great to see everyone there.

Thank you to this week’s writing helpers. It’s lovely to see more additions to the roster. Three or more helpers each day would be ideal, so please don’t be put off if someone’s name is already in a slot – the more the merrier!

In lieu of the Beach Ed trip, Sarah Wraight (Rm 10 teacher) and I are planning a fun, water-themed day for the children of Rooms 3 and 10, at school, whilst the rest of the team are away. We will keep you posted as we finalise the details.

Please continue to send the children to school in comfortable running shoes on Tuesdays and Fridays as we continue our Athletics practises.

The School Monster Fair on November 22 is nearly upon us. Could you please let me know if you are willing and able to give an hour or so of your time to help out at our class fizzy drinks stall. I will need the help of about six people to help with the setting up, running and packing down on the day.

Have you checked out our ‘herbalicious’ garden of potted herbs and veges yet! They seem to be flourishing thus far, under the watchful eye of the children.

I have now completed reviewing Learning Goals with those children whose review dates were set for the end of Term 3 or start of Term 4. Please ask me before or after school if you’d like to see the results. Some children require further time to work on specific aspects of their goals, so it would be great to be able to share this information with you.

We had a lot of fun today making our Halloween biscuits. Thank you to our lovely helpers for their invaluable assistance.

If you’re anything like my family, the social calendar seems to significantly ramp up in the countdown to Christmas. It is great to be able to make the most of the warmer days and extended daylight hours, and the smell of BBQs wafting over the fence is a sure sign of Summer being right around the corner. Have a great weekend.

Kind regards
Cara Wallace
