Our first Assembly

Today we went to our first Y0/1 Assembly. We all received 'Welcome to St Albans School Certificates'. It's great to be part of the Junior Team.

We made ice cream!

Today we worked together to make delicious vanilla ice cream. We learned how to separate eggs, use the electric beater and fold the ingredients together. We've left it overnight in the staffroom freezer so we can have a special treat for morning tea tomorrow...YUM!!!

Here's the recipe if you'd like to try and make some at home:

ICE CREAM
Ingredients:

4 eggs separated

½ cup caster sugar

300ml cream

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Method:

1.        Beat the egg whites until stiff.

2.        Add half the sugar and beat   until glossy.

3.        In another bowl, beat egg yolks with the remaining sugar until thick.

4.        Add vanilla and fold into egg whites.

5.        Whip cream until it begins to thicken and fold into egg mixture.

6.        Add flavours of your choice e.g. chocolate chips

7.        Pour into a shallow container and freeze (at least 2 hours).

The result ... DELICIOUS!

House Colours

Today I was given a list indicating which of the four houses your child is in. Siblings are placed in the same house, whilst the remainder of the children are distributed evenly between each house. The four houses at St Albans School are WHERO (red), KAKARIKI (green), KOWHAI (yellow) and KAHURANGI (blue). I will be attaching a slip of paper, indicating your child's house, into their Communication Book. During certain school events e.g. Athletic Sports, students are asked to wear clothing representing their house colour. As new students begin school, they too will be allocated a colour.

YELLOW: Kylee and Ari
RED: Alexus, Megan
BLUE: Trey, Harry F, Daisy
GREEN: Rhylee, Josh, Neave

Reminder...

Red and black mufti day tomorrow, Thursday 31 August. Gold coin donation. Funds raised will go to the Hearing House and Southern Cochlea Implant Paediatric Programme.

Pipe cleaner numbers

Today we further explored the numbers from 1-10 by making them with pipe cleaners. It was quite tricky, but we managed to make some great examples.

T-T-Tiger!

Can you spot your little tiger?

Beautiful baby sister!

We were so lucky to have Alexus' beautiful baby sister come and visit with their Nan this week. Isn't she gorgeous! Thank you Wendy for bringing Aria to meet us.

Visit to the Museum

Yesterday the children from the Junior Team visited the museum. We focused on the Early Christchurch street, locating mystery objects which we then had to try and identify. Some of them were very tricky! It was amazing to observe how much technology has changed and how different life is today with the advantage of electricity and running water! Here are some photos of the children and our wonderful parent helpers during their exploration:
